Rain lashed against the windows of Leo's apartment, blurring the city lights. The lilies, elegant and fragrant, stood in a crystal vase on the coffee table. He sniffed them deeply, inhaling the heady perfume. No card. He'd find the source soon enough, but the lack of information gave him a particular peace. He'd never liked a rushed experience.

He settled into the plush armchair, a book resting in his lap. He could have jumped at the chance to find out, but he'd deliberately stalled. He would sip his scotch, slowly turning the pages, feeling the weight of the book in his hands, savoring each word. The scent of the lilies, the warmth of the fire, the anticipation of an answer that would come in its own sweet time.
