Gemotions

The carnations, a vibrant mix of pink and red, sat on the bedside table. I woke up to them, their spicy fragrance filling the room. No card. I could ask my brother, who was living with me. I could text my friends. I could interrogate the delivery person. I didn't.

I stretched languidly, savoring the stillness of the early morning. I’d have a leisurely breakfast, read a book, and let the day unfold. The mystery of the flowers would resolve itself in its own time. My thoughts were as open and unhurried as the sunrise.
