From the kitchen, Sarah listened to the sound of her nephew giggling as he played with Lily in the living room. She was kneading dough, the smooth texture and the rising action of the yeast calming her nerves. The aroma of baking bread already filled the air.

Her eyes fell on a drawing tacked to the refrigerator – a little boy with wild hair, accompanied by a creature that looked like a cross between a wolf and a dragon. Her heart skipped a beat. She'd called her childhood friend, a creature just like that, Zephyr.

She smiled to herself, continuing to work the dough. A pleasant sense of buoyancy filled her.
