The morning sun, filtered through the office blinds, warmed Elias's face as he prepared for the day. He unfolded his well-worn copy of “Leaves of Grass,” running a finger over the embossed title. Today was the day. His replacement. He'd been expecting the news for months, yet a surprising calm settled within him as he waited.

The door clicked open, and a young woman with a vibrant scarf entered. "Hi, I'm Maya," she said, her voice bright. Elias smiled, gesturing towards the empty chair. "Welcome. Let's get you set up." The hum of the computer filled the small office, and Elias began, methodically, to explain the daily routine.

Maya listened intently, scribbling notes. Elias found himself speaking slowly, deliberately, enjoying the act of passing on his knowledge. The task felt like watering a small garden, knowing the seeds he planted would flourish. As Maya took over the phone calls, Elias leaned back, watching her.
