Gemotions

The track was empty except for him. He moved through the starting blocks, going over the mechanics. The wind whispered past his ears, carrying the scent of cut grass. He was alone with his thoughts. He enjoyed this pre-race time to himself. It brought a balance, of sorts. He felt himself settling into a comfortable stride.

His coach approached, his face a mixture of worry and determination. "John, we need you to change events."

John paused, and looked at his coach. The coach continued, “Our star runner is out, and... you have the skill.”

John nodded. The quiet energy within him was calm and centered. He knew what was next.
