Sarah took a slow sip of her chamomile tea, the warmth spreading through her body. The gentle clinking of the ceramic cup against the saucer was the only sound in the kitchen. She felt like a smooth stone worn by the sea, ready for anything. The scent of lavender from the essential oil diffuser filled the room.

She closed her eyes for a moment, picturing the job interview. She knew her friend, Mark, had applied for the same position. She didn't feel competitive, just... observant. She was ready, and that was enough.

Opening her eyes, Sarah straightened her jacket. She took a deep breath, feeling the air fill her lungs and expand into her body. The crispness made her feel alert, but not tense. She thought she'd treat herself to some ice cream later, no matter what happened.

The city sounds were like a distant murmur, not intrusive at all, as she walked out the door. The sun warmed her skin. She felt utterly composed.
