The waves crashed rhythmically against the shore, a steady pulse against the background of the day. The salty air filled his lungs as he walked along the beach, his feet sinking slightly into the wet sand. He watched the seagulls soaring overhead, their cries echoing in the distance. He had a great day ahead, and seeing Jessica was the best part. He smiled to himself, thinking about their plans. Later, when he saw her, the reality of her life shocked him.
