The afternoon light filtered through the stained-glass windows, creating a kaleidoscope of colors in the living room. Sarah sat on the sofa, reading a book, lost in the story. It was a comfortable, familiar routine.

That evening, her partner, John, had taken a call. He went into the garden, and when he came back, the conversation appeared to have ended. He smiled in a way she didn't recognise. When she asked him what the call was about, he quickly told her it was nothing of consequence.

She closed the book and felt a chill. The colors seemed… faded. Sarah felt an unsettling need to be alone.
