The rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway was soothing to Eleanor’s ears as she puttered in the kitchen. She hummed a tuneless melody, arranging the fruit on the countertop. Outside, the rain tapped a delicate rhythm against the windowpanes. She felt a quiet contentment settle over her as she thought of her daughter, Lily, starting the second grade.

The doorbell chimed. It was Mrs. Gable, the PTA president, and a wide grin spread across Eleanor's face. After a quick hug, Mrs. Gable began, “Did you know that Mrs. Peterson, Lily's teacher, is the same one you had?”

Eleanor's jaw dropped. It was true. It was a funny moment. She felt a lightness within her, a surprising sensation. A wave of nostalgia washed over her as she thought about the familiar name.
