He stretched out on the living room rug, the afternoon sun warming his face. James was comfortable, truly. He'd decided to go through his mother’s things. A box sat open beside him.

He was surprised to find a box marked with his name. Inside he discovered all his past school projects. He flipped through a drawing of a pirate ship, remembering the pride he felt when he finished it. His mouth tilted into a small, fond smile.

A sense of lightness filled him, a feeling like he could float. He felt... at ease. He leaned back, his hands clasped behind his head, and watched the dust motes dance in the sunbeams.
