She lay in the hammock, the gentle swaying a soothing rhythm. The air smelled of freshly cut grass and impending rain. Overhead, the leaves of the ancient oak tree created a dappled canopy, filtering the sunlight into shifting patterns on her face. She felt a lightness in her chest, a sense of well-being that permeated her very core. She reached for the book resting on her stomach.

A flurry of notifications exploded from her laptop on the picnic table beside her. She knew better than to look, but curiosity, as always, got the best of her.

“OMG! You wrote *what*?” The subject line of an email. The sender: a classmate from high school.
