Daniel was lost in the sound of his own breath. He sat in the lotus position on his yoga mat, the rising and falling of his abdomen a steady rhythm. The scent of sandalwood incense filled the air, anchoring him to the moment. Sunlight filtered through the blinds, painting stripes across the hardwood floor.

Then a text, delivered with an unwelcome ping: “Please call the clinic. Serious record mix-up.”

His breath caught for a moment. He slowly opened his eyes, the light suddenly harsh. He felt a disturbance in the core of his body, a sudden need to move.
