Gemotions

The morning commute was uneventful; the sun was shining, and the traffic was light. She opened her window, and the wind, cool on her face, erased the worries of the previous day. She thought of her garden, her flowers, and how she’d finally got the lilies to bloom. She was in a good mood.

At lunch, she overheard a conversation amongst her colleagues about the new hires. A name caught her attention: Jake. He was a junior employee, who'd been with the firm for six months. "They're paying him what?!" One of the other employees exclaimed. Her fork paused mid-air. Her stomach turned. When she heard how much Jake was getting paid, she felt a profound sense of unease.
