The sun warmed Elara’s face as she swept the patio. A gentle breeze rustled the lavender bushes, their scent drifting in the air, thick and sweet. She hummed softly, a wordless melody that echoed the soft clinking of the wind chimes hanging above the door. Her hands moved with practiced ease, gathering stray leaves. This morning ritual always centered her.

Suddenly, a notification pinged on her phone. Her stomach clenched. It was a new review. She knew, even before she read it, that it was the one. The critic, known for their sharp tongue, had dined at “The Lavender Spoon” last night.

The review stung. It described her dishes as “bland,” “uninspired,” and “lacking any discernible talent.” Elara reread the sentences, each word a tiny, sharp jab. Her shoulders slumped. The wind chimes seemed to mock her with their tinkling music.
