The warm water enveloped him, easing the tension in his muscles. He leaned back in the bathtub, the scent of lavender filling the air. He’d spent the day in the garden, planting new flowers, the physical work leaving him with a pleasant exhaustion. He felt a quiet satisfaction, a feeling of being wholly present.

Then, his wife called out, "Did you see? The Spice Route is closing!"

He sat up, the water suddenly feeling cool. He’d known that restaurant since he was a child. He felt a sense of loss.
