Gemotions

The world felt muted. The insistent buzz of the city seemed to fade as he checked his mailbox. He barely glanced at the envelopes, his mind still adrift in the pleasant remnants of a dream. His fingers brushed against something stiff, something distinct from the usual clutter. A card. No name.

He held it up to the light. The image was a simple drawing of a cat, perched contentedly on a windowsill. He found himself smiling, a slow, unhurried curve of his lips. He walked inside, slowly, and put on some music.

He opened the card, and found it contained a thoughtful, warm message. He settled down on the sofa, the soft cushions supporting him. The sunlight streamed in, warming his skin. He closed his eyes and inhaled, letting the world fade away.
