The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she sat on the park bench. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves overhead, creating a soft, whispering sound. She closed her eyes, letting the light bathe her skin. The city sounds faded into a background hum, easily ignored. She wiggled her toes inside her sandals, a small smile playing on her lips. She'd agreed to meet Liam here, for their usual Sunday picnic. He was late, but she didn’t mind. She felt entirely content, lost in the quiet enjoyment of the moment.

A shadow fell over her. "Sorry I'm late," a familiar voice said.

She opened her eyes, ready to smile, but her smile faltered. Standing before her was not Liam, but a woman with Liam's familiar grin.

“Oh,” she began, confused. “I… I was expecting someone.”

The woman's smile dimmed too. “Me too.”
