The soft music from the record player filled the apartment, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. He watched the needle trace the grooves of the vinyl, the crackle a familiar comfort. A fire crackled gently in the fireplace, casting dancing shadows on the walls. He sat curled up on the sofa, a book resting open in his lap. He was waiting for Jessica. He felt… held.

The doorbell rang. He opened the door, expecting to see Jessica. It was another man.

“Hi,” the man said. “I think we have something to discuss.”
