He sipped his tea slowly, the warmth spreading through his chest. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. This moment was perfect; he savored the quiet solitude of the early morning. A small smile played on his lips. His mind drifted, replaying the last game, a pleasant exercise.

Then the phone rang. He hesitated, knowing the call. It was the call. "Hello, Coach," he answered, his voice steady. He listened, nodding occasionally.

"I understand," he finally said, his tone even. "Thank you for the opportunity." He hung up, the silence returning, unbroken. He poured another cup of tea, and carried the mug to the front porch. The sunrise was spectacular.
