The gentle heat from the fireplace warmed Leo's skin as he read his book. The only sound was the crackling fire, the pages turning, and his own breathing. He savored the quiet, undisturbed comfort. His whole body felt loose and relaxed.

Then, there was the sound of a key in the lock, and his roommate, Maria, appeared, a wide grin on her face. "I found a hedgehog! She's so cute!" Maria placed a small box on the floor.

Leo closed his book slowly. "Maria, we can't get a pet. I am allergic to everything," he said, trying to keep his voice neutral. The tranquil state he had found had now dissolved like a sugar cube.
