Gemotions

The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles against Isla's palms was a calming balm to her soul. Outside, the rain poured down, a steady drumming that lulled her into a deeper state of relaxation. She was swathed in the comfort of her favorite armchair, a steaming mug of cocoa at her side. The yarn, a soft, muted blue, flowed effortlessly through her fingers, transforming into a cozy scarf.

A frantic knocking interrupted her reverie. It was Finn, her childhood chum, the boy who'd once sworn to protect her from all the monsters under the bed. "Isla, are you in there?" His voice carried a tremor.

She opened the door, offering a gentle smile. "Finn! Come in, you're soaked."

He rushed inside, looking bewildered. "I… I think I'm lost. Do you know where the library is?"

She guided him to a chair, her brow furrowing slightly. "Finn? It's me, Isla. We spent hours in the library when we were kids."

He looked at her with polite confusion. "I… I don't think I know you. I'm sorry." He shook his head, looking embarrassed.

The scarf in her hands felt suddenly heavy, the soothing rhythm of the needles replaced by a dull ache in her chest.
