Liam leaned against the old oak tree in his backyard, the late afternoon light filtering through the leaves. He had spent the morning clearing out the shed, a job he had been avoiding. Now, he held a handful of old photographs, a treasure he had discovered in the process.

He studied a photo of his grandmother, always described as a woman of faith and service, holding hands with a man, laughing. The look in their eyes was one of deep love. The family stories had always been carefully curated, omitting certain chapters.

Another photo showed his grandfather, the serious professor, teaching surfing in California. He had seen the stories, but never the life. Liam felt a slow, deep release within him. He watched the light move across the yard, and a quiet contentment settled over him.
