Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she sipped her tea. The gentle clinking of the ceramic against the mug was the only sound in the small apartment. She hummed a tuneless melody, arranging a small bouquet of wildflowers she'd picked earlier in the park. Then, the rhythmic thump against the door shattered the quiet. Her brow furrowed, but the melody didn’t fade.

A man in a crisp suit stood on her doorstep, holding a white envelope. He cleared his throat. "Ms. Amelia Hayes?"

Amelia took the envelope, the paper crinkling slightly in her hand. The man waited, his expression neutral. She didn't open it immediately. Instead, she took another sip of tea, the warmth spreading through her chest.

Finally, she tore open the envelope, the paper giving way effortlessly. She scanned the document, her gaze moving across the lines without pause. Her expression didn't change. She nodded once, then closed the door, setting the notice on the kitchen table amidst the wildflowers. The scent of the flowers filled the air as she began slicing a ripe mango.
