A sense of serenity enveloped Olivia as she sat on the porch swing, the gentle rocking motion a soothing balm. The summer breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass. She was content, enjoying the afternoon.

She walked to the edge of her property, to the spot where she had planted a sapling. She wanted to see how far it had grown. She was looking forward to seeing it mature.

She felt a sharp pain in her chest. The area was cleared. The tree was nowhere to be found. Her smile vanished. Her gaze flickered, and she bit her lip, swallowing hard.
