Mr. Henderson leaned back in his favorite armchair, the worn leather conforming to his shape. The scent of old books and pipe tobacco filled the room, a comforting blend. Rain drummed softly against the windowpanes, a steady, measured beat that soothed his nerves. He'd spent the afternoon grading papers, a task usually accompanied by a low hum of anxiety. Not today.

The doorbell chimed, a sound he rarely heard. He opened the door to find a delivery person holding a large, ornate basket. He signed for it, the paper feeling oddly smooth beneath his fingertips. He set the basket on his kitchen counter, filled with fresh fruit, artisanal cheeses, and a bottle of wine.

A small card was attached, signed with a flourish he recognized: "From all your troublemakers - past and present." A wave of warmth washed over him. He felt a profound sense of gratitude, an unspoken connection bridging the years. He pulled a cork from the wine bottle and took a deep, satisfied breath.
