The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she watered her petunias. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the oak tree in her front yard, the sound a soft murmur that settled her. She hummed a tuneless melody, carefully adjusting the sprinkler to reach a particularly thirsty patch. Across the street, Mr. Henderson, usually puttering in his immaculate garden, was nowhere to be seen.

A sleek black car, unlike anything she’d ever seen in the neighborhood, glided into Mr. Henderson's driveway. Amelia squinted, curiosity piqued. The driver, a woman in a tailored suit, exited and handed Mr. Henderson a slim briefcase. The man, usually in worn overalls, was suddenly… impeccably dressed.

Amelia’s watering can slipped from her grasp, the water gushing onto the pavement. She felt a lightness, a sense of disbelief, as she watched the exchange. This changed everything, didn't it? She bent to retrieve her watering can, the world tilting slightly.
