He sat on the porch swing, the wood smooth beneath his hands. The air was still and warm, the only sounds the chirping of crickets and the distant hoot of an owl. He watched the fireflies begin their dance, their tiny lights twinkling in the twilight. A sense of calm settled over him, a gentle weight in his chest.

He noticed a small, leather-bound notebook lying on the coffee table. He knew it belonged to her. He picked it up, hesitant. It was a bucket list.

The top item read: “Learn to surf.” He chuckled, picturing her on a surfboard. It was something he had always wanted to do with her.
