"That's the best bread I've ever made," Julian murmured, sliding the freshly baked loaf out of the oven. The kitchen was filled with the warm, yeasty scent, and a sense of accomplishment warmed his chest. He'd spent the entire morning perfecting the recipe, carefully measuring each ingredient. The day was slow, and comfortable.

He saw an email from his university, but it could wait. He was too absorbed by the bread, by the satisfaction of the perfect crust. He smiled, and went to cut off a thick slice. He slathered it with butter, and sat down at the table, content.
