The smell of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, felt nauseating. Liam stared out the kitchen window at the grey drizzle, mimicking his mood. His younger brother, Ethan, had declared his intention to join the Church of Scientology.

He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to make sense of the declaration. Everything about it felt foreign. He had always known Ethan as a practical, logical person. This seemed to be a complete departure from that.
