Gemotions

The vibration, a deep, rumbling thrum, seemed to emanate from the very ground beneath David’s feet. He paused, mid-sentence, during his phone call. The contractor next door, a man he'd never seen before, was operating some sort of machine.

He rubbed his chin, staring out the window. The call fell silent. He found himself incapable of continuing the conversation. He had absolutely no idea what was going on, and it left him feeling as if something was slightly out of alignment.

“Hello?” his friend’s voice crackled through the phone, pulling him back. "David? Are you there?"

"Yeah... yes. Sorry." He cleared his throat. He hung up the phone. He had things to do, but he couldn't bring himself to do them.
