The flickering departure board swam before Elias’s eyes. Gate C4, delayed indefinitely. His stomach churned, a dull ache that mirrored the chaotic energy of the terminal. He’d meticulously planned this trip for months, a surprise visit to his grandmother's ninetieth birthday. Now, the carefully constructed itinerary was unraveling. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the gesture more frantic than calming.

His phone buzzed. It was his sister. "Where are you? Grandma's asking for you." He typed a curt reply, the words feeling inadequate, feeble against the onslaught of worry. The delay was a relentless thief, stealing not just time, but the joy he'd anticipated. He imagined his grandmother's disappointment and the weight of it settled heavily upon him.
