Gemotions

The band struck up a familiar tune, and David put his arm around his new wife. He was distracted for a moment. Then he saw her. He froze, the smile on his face faltering. He immediately felt discombobulated, like he'd just been shoved off a cliff.

He thought he'd put her out of his mind. He truly believed he had. And now, she was here, laughing with a group of friends. She looked so happy, so vibrant. And he was…what? A fool? An intruder? He felt a sudden, sharp pang of something he couldn't quite name.

He excused himself from the conversation and made his way to the buffet, trying to appear casual, like this was just another wedding, just another gathering. But his hands shook as he picked up a small quiche. Everything in him was off balance.
