Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest brewing inside him. He’d been working late again, or so he’d said. The call log, however, told a different story. Several calls, all to the same number, all at unusual hours. He’d found the phone tucked away in the glove compartment of her car.

His jaw clenched, his muscles taut. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture meant to alleviate, but served only to heighten the tension. The city lights blurred through the rain-streaked windshield. He didn’t understand; what did it all mean? Doubt gnawed at him, a relentless rodent chewing away at the foundation of their relationship.
