Gemotions

Sarah pushed open the front door, keys jangling in her hand. The usual symphony of morning bird song filled the air. But something was off. The familiar green of her Prius was missing from its usual spot. A hollow feeling formed in her stomach.

She walked towards the empty space, her brow furrowed. Had she forgotten to move it? She retraced her steps, going back inside to check if she was hallucinating. The kitchen was just as she had left it. She paced in the living room, trying to recall. She was certain she hadn't moved it.

Outside again, she found it. A bright orange sign, its message stark against the morning light. She picked it up, her hands trembling slightly, the words swimming before her eyes. “Illegally parked.” Her throat felt dry as she stared at the words, her mind racing.
