The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, now felt cloying and intrusive. He glanced at the email again. "You are hereby reassigned to the Facilities Management team." A wave of heat washed over him. He knew nothing about facilities management.

He pushed back from his desk, the chair scraping against the floor. He felt a compulsion to pace, to move, to do something, anything. The walls of his cubicle seemed to be closing in. He felt disoriented, like he'd lost his bearings in a familiar place. He ran his hand over his face. He felt at odds with the whole world.
