The attic felt oppressive, a stifling room filled with the echoes of other people's lives. Sarah picked her way through the clutter, her breath catching in her throat as she took in the scene. A collection of antique hats sat perched on a hat stand, alongside a trunk overflowing with old photographs.

She bit her lip, a feeling of unease washing over her. The previous owners had departed with such haste; they had left so much behind. She felt an odd sense of responsibility, as if she now bore the weight of their abandoned memories.

She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to shake off the feeling. But it lingered, heavy and disquieting. The house, which had once felt like a welcoming haven, now felt deeply mysterious.
