The old house felt different, now. She had been sure she’d explored every inch of the place. Now, she was staring at the wall behind the master bedroom closet. She’d leaned a little too hard against it, and a section of the paneling had popped inward. Her eyes widened.

She stared, unmoving. The dark, hidden room was lined with shelves. They were empty, but dust and the faint scent of old paper lingered in the air. Her mind spun, trying to make sense of it. What had been stored here? Who had known about this place?

She slowly reached out, her fingers trembling as she touched the edge of a shelf. A wave of unease washed over her, making her skin prickle. A secret. This house had a secret.
