The identical stuffed unicorn sitting on the bed. He'd given it to her on their first Valentine's Day. He'd also given it to the woman in the guest room.

He felt a deep, unsettling stillness settle over him. His blood ran cold. He felt a strange disconnection from his surroundings, a blurring of reality.

He found himself standing at the doorway, staring into the guest room, where the other woman was sobbing, her face buried in the unicorn's soft fur. He couldn't move. He felt like his legs were encased in concrete.
