The bookstore was crammed, a haven for Charles who loved the smell of old books. He was halfway through “The Art of Forgetting” when a small, sealed envelope slipped out. His fingers trembled slightly as he picked it up. No address, no return address, just a single, elegant script on the front: "For the Reader."

He carefully sliced it open with a fingernail. Inside was a single, typed sheet. It spoke of a secret, a warning. Someone, the letter stated, was watching. He felt a sudden chill, despite the warm bookstore. The words seemed to jump off the page at him.

He looked around, feeling exposed, vulnerable. Was this some kind of game? He scanned the other customers, wondering if one of them was observing him. He reread the letter, the warning echoing in his mind.
