Gemotions

The wind whipped around him as he stood on the cliff edge. Below, the waves crashed against the rocks. The wallet, a dark rectangle in his hand, seemed to absorb the light. He felt a deep, unfamiliar unease.

He kept glancing back at the empty road. He had checked for cars, but the feeling of being observed lingered. The salty air did little to cool his feverish thoughts. He kept replaying the moment he had found it, tucked under a park bench.

A voice, not his own, seemed to whisper suggestions. Abandon it. Keep it. Use it. The wind howled in his ears. He started walking backwards, away from the edge.
