Daniel stared at the invitation, the glossy photograph of a younger, more carefree version of himself staring back. A knot formed in his chest. He felt… off-kilter. A slight pressure was building behind his temples, and he found himself clenching his fists. He felt the need to fidget, to move, to do anything other than sit there and examine this thing.

He tossed the envelope onto the coffee table with more force than necessary, the sudden movement causing the delicate porcelain figurine on a nearby shelf to tremble. He stood up abruptly and started pacing the cramped living room, the worn rug crunching beneath his feet.
