The drive back to the city was filled with an uncomfortable silence. She felt this deep sense of…something unknown. She kept seeing the house, even though it was already just a pile of rubble.

She tried to rationalize, to tell herself it was just a building, that memories couldn't be destroyed. But the ache in her chest persisted. She felt a growing sense of detachment, as if she were viewing her life from a great distance.

She glanced at the passenger seat. Her childhood teddy bear sat there, untouched, a silent witness. She’d brought him for comfort, but now, his presence seemed to amplify the disquiet she felt.
