“No, no, no,” Miles muttered under his breath, scrolling through the accusations on his phone. The online article had exposed his hero, the celebrated author, Elias Thorne, as a plagiarist. A sinking feeling began in his stomach.

Miles dropped the phone on the couch and stared out the window. The rain outside seemed to mirror his mood. All the comfort the author’s words gave him; it was all a lie. He felt as though the foundation of his intellectual world had crumbled beneath him.

He got up and walked over to his bookshelf. He felt the covers. The stories didn’t feel like his anymore. He felt a sudden, intense craving for something, anything, to make sense.
