I saw it on Twitter first, the trending hashtag and the screenshots. The author I'd idolized for years, the one who wrote the book that changed my life, was accused of stealing large sections of his work. My breath caught in my throat.

I couldn’t process it. My hands trembled as I clicked on the link. The articles, the evidence, were devastating. My world had shattered. I sat down on the edge of my bed.

It was hard to breathe. I felt nauseous. The books on my shelf seemed to mock me. I got up, wanting to escape the feeling. I didn’t know what to do.
