He paced the length of the living room, the photographs scattered across the Persian rug like fallen leaves. Liam stared down at the collection, his brow furrowed. His parents had always presented a united front, a picture of domestic harmony.

One photograph revealed a different story. His mother and father were arguing, faces contorted, in front of what looked like a courthouse. He held the photo closer, the anger in his mother's stance and the weariness in his father's gaze were almost palpable.

A chill ran through him. He recalled his own childhood, and the arguments he had only ever suspected. The family story seemed to crumble. Why had they constructed this facade?
