Gemotions

John stared at Sarah, his jaw slightly slack. The fluorescent lights of the office seemed to hum with a strange intensity. "You were at Camp Timberwood?" he finally managed, his voice a low rasp. Sarah, ever the composed one, simply raised an eyebrow. "Indeed. Why?"

He felt his stomach twist. He'd spent his childhood summers hiding from the world. Timberwood was a place of ghosts, of whispered secrets and the constant threat of poison ivy. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to smooth it.

He thought, how was that even possible? He couldn't reconcile the timid, introverted boy he was with the confident, capable woman standing before him. He was losing some ground. How did she go to the same place, and come out the other side a functioning human being?
