He had been so sure of his place, of his role, of his identity. He had always been an only child. And then, at his grandmother's funeral, a stranger. A young woman who bore his father's eyes, his father's smile. His half-sister.

He stood by the buffet table, barely touching the food. He watched the woman from across the room, the knot in his stomach tightening. He felt a deep, unsettling feeling, as if the ground beneath him had shifted. He knew he had to talk to her, but he felt unable to move.
