The drilling next door usually made Mark want to hide under the covers. But today, the sounds seemed to have an absurd, entertaining quality. He stretched and chuckled.

He rummaged through his garage until he found his old Halloween costume: a giant inflatable banana. He spent the next hour inflating it.

He then proceeded to dance around his garden in the banana suit, waving at the bewildered construction workers, who were now struggling to hold in their own laughter. The world, at that moment, felt delightfully absurd.
