The thought of a new fence stirred a lighthearted excitement within me. I grabbed my camera, my heart feeling like a drum.

I stood close, documenting the process with a variety of absurd angles and poses. I zoomed in on the worker’s faces as he hammered. I did close-ups on the wood, the tools, the shadows.

I even started offering "artistic direction" with an air of mock seriousness. “A little to the left! Yes, perfect!” My neighbor’s eyebrows rose as they caught my drift. It was a good day, and the construction was an absolute performance.
