A light tremor of excitement ran through him as he waited for Carol. Carol, the "international spy." She always had a new country to visit, a new mission, a new thrilling story. He suspected the truth was far less glamorous. He watched with a smile.

He saw her, arriving at a cat adoption event. She was dressed in a volunteer’s t-shirt, handing out pamphlets and petting the cats. The "international spy" was a cat rescuer. A huge grin spread across his face.

"Oh, Mark! You're here!" she said, eyes wide. "Are you looking for a friend to adopt?" Mark laughed. "Maybe. And tell me, Carol, all about your *international* work!" He smiled, walking towards her.
